The rhythmic pulse of Kadodi drums echoed through the UMA Showgrounds as the 5th edition of the Kadodi Karnival took place on Saturday. Under the theme “Innovating Tradition,” the grounds transformed into a vibrant celebration of heritage, drawing thousands to witness the bold evolution of Bamasaba culture.
At the heart of the festivities stood Pilsner’s immersive Cultural Village, where revellers stepped away from the main stage to touch, taste, and capture tradition.
Handcrafted artifacts lined the space, while vintage-inspired photobooths attracted crowds eager to create lasting memories, with laughter echoing against backdrops honoring Masaba heritage.
Lillian Kansiime, Brand Manager for Mainstream Beer at Uganda Breweries Limited, reflected on Pilsner’s involvement:
“We are honoured to support this vibrant display of heritage once again and reaffirm our commitment to uplifting cultural traditions that define our identity. Seeing this community celebrate with such pride truly reflects the spirit that Pilsner stands for.”
Adding to the excitement, the first 250 attendees at the Cultural Village received Pilsner King, a brew many described as being as bold as the celebration itself.
Local vendors enriched the experience with smoky meats, urban and traditional snacks, and handcrafted ornaments—each purchase celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit of Eastern Uganda.
Margaret Kisaale from the Kimaru Foundation emphasized the event’s cultural importance:
“We are grateful for the support from all our partners and attendees as we showcase the depth of our culture on this grand stage. Events like this prove that heritage can innovate without losing its soul, ensuring it remains vibrant for future generations.”
On stage, the lineup reflected the theme with dynamic authenticity. Performances by Dokta Pinan, Astar 95, and Rexy Umumasijje showcased the evolving Eastern sound, while MCs Jesse, Hopkins, and Izak King kept the energy high throughout the event.
A dazzling fireworks display lit up the night before Winnie Nwagi closed the show with a headline performance defined by her signature pop flair.
From the first drumbeat to the final encore, the Karnival demonstrated that tradition is not meant to be preserved behind glass, but to be lived, celebrated, and shared—ideally over a bold beer.
